Lubricants - Can I use synthetic oil instead of mineral oil?
It is strongly recommended used synthetic lubricant oil, especially full-Synthetic Oil, Synthetic oil will improve the engine performance and can prevent carbon accumulation in the piston. For break in we recommend Red Line Racing Oil at 30:1 or Castrol TTS at 30:1. After 2 hours of running you can reduce the oil content to 40:1 with full synthetic high performnce oils.
First Run-All DLE engines key components such as ignition, carburetor, etc have been tested before being delivered from the factory. The factory doesn't start the engine. Prior to first run we strongly recommend you inspect the engine. If you find any defect please contact use for assistance.
Ignition - There are 3 wires with 2 x black and 1 x red connectos exiting the ignition. What are the purpose of these connectors?
* the red plug connects to an ignition switch or IBEC.
* the plug with black coveing connects to the magneic sensor.
* the third is a tachometer output from the igniton unit. This telemetry wire can be connected to the Advanced Radio IET01 Telemetry unit or the DLE RPM display.
What voltage can I use for the ignition system? The ignition system will operate from 4.8v to 8.4v (Maximum 9.0v). It can be connected through an ignition switch to a 2S Lion, Lipo or LiFe battery.
Can I use an Ignition battery elimination ciruit with the DL Ignition systems? yes you can use battery elimination circuits (IBEC) like
* Advanced Radio IET01 battery elimination ignition switch (with downlink telemetry for RPM and temperature readings for up to 7 cylinders)
* Advanced Radio IBEC01 battery elimination ignition switch
* Tech Aero IBEC battery elimination ignition switch.
Fuel Connection - Some of the DL Engines have carburettors with 2 fuel connections. Which of the two connectors connects to the fuel tank?
The black nipple is fuel inlet. Connect this nipple to the fuel supply.
The brass nozzle is an air inlet used to balance the air pressure internl to the carburettor.
Warranty Information - All the DLE engines enjoy one year parts and labour warranty when used with specificed propellers, correct lubricants and lubricant ratios. Your new DL engine number will be recorded for warranty purposes.
PLEASE NOTE: The following uses may/will damage the engine and are not covered by warranty.
* Running a DL Engine without oil or too little oil. We recommend 30:1 full synthetic for break in and 40:1 for normal running
* Running the engine with incorrect sized propeller.
* Oversized propellers can increase stress on internal components and give poorer torque performance.
* Undersized propellers may cause too high RPM.
* Running the engine without adequate cooling may cause overheat damage. Please ensure the engine has adequate ducting to force air over the cylinder cooling fins with a 1:3 Inlet to outlet ratio recommended with venturi fins on the air outlet to draw air. Simply mounting an engine in the engine cowl without proper ducting is considered inadequate cooling.
